Nilüfer Yanya Paints a Romantic British Summer In Nostalgic “Baby Luv” Video

22 year old Londoner Nilüfer Yanya just revealed the video for her new single “Baby Luv” — her first release since the acclaimed ‘Plant Feed’ EP in July. The single has already been lauded by Pitchfork, who proclaimed it a ‘Best New Track’, following a similar accolade for her earlier release ‘Golden Cage’.

The video for ‘Baby Luv’ was shot in Penzance, Cornwall over the course of three days with Nilüfer braving the freezing cold English Channel to perfectly capture a romantic snapshot of British summer holidays, lending the track’s yearning message an even more crushingly sweet effect.

Nilüfer has also just announced her first ever North American shows at New York’s Mercury Lounge (November 14) and Los Angeles’ Masonic Lodge at The Hollywood Forever Cemetery (November 16).

“Baby Luv” is out now on ATO Records (and Blue Flowers Music in the U.K.) and has also been praised by The FADER (one of “14 songs you need in your life this week”), Stereogum (“enchanting in its plaintive simplicity”), Brooklyn Vegan (“jazzy pop with slice-of-life lyrics”) and more.

Emerging in 2016 with her debut EP ‘Small Crimes’, Nilüfer Yanya has gone on to establish herself as one of the most promising British songwriters and guitarists of her generation. Nilüfer’s 2017 follow up EP, ‘Plant Feed’, proved her breakthrough moment with Pitchfork crowning her a ‘Rising’ artist, and Broken Social Scene and The xx handpicking her to perform as support at their headline dates.

Speaking to The Fader about the video for ‘Baby Luv’, Nilüfer said, “Baby Luv was written around this time last year. The title came from an image of a pram. We were going for a Martin Parr-esque style so we shot the video in Penzance, Cornwall, it was probably the most immersed I’ve been in a shooting a video because we were on location for 3/4 days. I look very cold in a lot of it because I was. At one point we nearly lost all our equipment to the sea.”

Nilüfer will head out on her first U.K. headline tour this month, which includes her biggest sold out headline show thus far at London’s Omeara on October 16 as well as dates in Bristol’s Louisiana (October 17) and Brighton’s Hope & Ruin (October 18).

Outside of her solo work, Nilüfer also runs a charitable organization, Artists In Transit, along with her sister Molly Daniel — who also co-directs all of Nilüfer’s stunning DIY videos with her boyfriend Patrick Chamberlain. Artists In Transit aims to assist displaced people entering Europe through arts and music lessons and is funded in part by a zine, My Friend, created by the sisters.

Supported extensively by Pitchfork (”Golden Cage’, Best New Track’ and ‘Rising’), The FADER, i-D (‘Class of 2017’), Pigeons and Planes, The Line Of Best Fit (‘Ones To Watch 2017’), NME, DIY (‘The Big Neu Thing’), The Sunday Times (‘Breaking Act’), The Observer (‘One To Watch’) and a host of BBC tastemaker DJs including Annie Mac, Huw Stephens, Lauren Laverne, Steve Lamacq and Matt Wilkinson, Nilüfer has confirmed herself as a singular, exceptional, and in-demand new talent.
