INTERVIEW: RIKA

Hi Rika, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been great thank you!

Can you talk to us more about your song “No Need”?

“No Need” is an anthem of empowerment and a bop about telling people there’s no need to be mean and rude; its unnecessary.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I came home one day after someone had been quite rude to me and my friends, and decided to pen this track.

Any plans to release a video for the track?

The video is out now! It was shot at my secondary school. I had a lot of fun shooting it but it took 15 hours ahh.

How was the recording and writing process?

I wrote the song and the chords at home. Then I took it to my producer “The Highester” and we co-produced the beat. It was magic from the start.

What role does London plays in your writing?

London has such a fun and wide music scene, so it really allows me to do whatever music I want and experiment with different genres.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes! I have a variety of songs lined up and I can’t wait to drop more stuff!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Can’t reveal that yet to be HONEST, but let’s just it’s a different vibe from No Need :).

Can we expect some political and social references on this new material?

Maybe!

Any plans to hit the road?

Hoping to do lots of festivals next year!

What else is happening next in RIKA´s world?

I am performing on the final of Miss Serbia in October, which will be broadcasted all over the Balkans. I am also performing for BBC Asian Network’s Diwali in the Square event, so catch me there!
