Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hello! All good thanks guys, just currently on tour at the moment with the boys in Create to Inspire and Kingdom of Giants which has been a blast so far!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “B.E.L.I.E.V.E.”?
Yeah, we shot the music video while we were out on tour in Asia so it has a lot of cool and weird visuals of us being out there and we had loads of fun making it!
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
The song revolves around the idea of giving up on yourself and is a really personal track for me, it wasn’t a particular event but a culmination of many things that inspired it, check it out!
The single comes off your new album Counter Culture – what’s the story behind the title?
The world is a fucked up place and we try to distance ourselves away from the mainstream as much as possible, both as people and as artists. There is something fundamentally wrong with dominant beliefs in both politics and religion and society as a whole. So yeah we got a problem with that and want to put that across in our music.
How was the recording and writing process?
We’ve had a lot of trouble with it. Unfortunately, our long term producer Tom Denney really messed with us and wouldn’t give us our finished music back for over a year. It’s been a struggle and we had to re-record most of the album, but we are all so happy with how it has turned out. We couldn’t be more proud of how the album sounds and it’s by far the best music we’ve made as a band.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Our songs reflect the world we’re all living in, and each of us as a person and what they are going through at that time. My lyrics always stem from what is going on in my life at that moment, how I’m feeling and it’s my way of venting my thoughts and emotions. I take a lot of influence from hip hop artists so I try to make that come through in the music, whilst sticking true to the metal roots of the band.
What else is happening next in FATHOMS’ world?
We’re just on tour at the moment, we’re plaining to release ‘Counter Culture’ and get the music out to as many people as possible and play as many shows as possible. We’ve got a few things in the works but nothing we can talk about just yet!
