INTERVIEW: Jared Dylan
Hi Jared, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Well. Thank you.
Can you talk to us more about your new single “We Can’t”?
“We Can’t” is just a song about moving on. Plain and simple. The overall message is that ‘we can’t live in the past.’
Did any event inspire you to write this song?
This track was inspired by a recent breakup. We were in two very different places and wanted two very different things. Personally, I don’t like to leave a relationship with any hard feelings or ill will. Not everyone has the same M.O.
How was the recording and writing process?
The inspiration, writing, and recording all happened at the same time. I was in the studio while the aftermath of this breakup was setting in; ignoring her calls to keep writing while also having a lot of emotions brewing. It all happened very fast. The lyrics were done within 30 minutes. As soon as we finished the song my first thought was, “This is too real. I can’t release it.” Looking back, I think that is a good sign.
How was the experience filming the music video?
The video shoot was crazy. I had a team of people all working toward a vision while juggling 40+ extras, face painters, a balloon artist, and time. Sometimes you have to learn a lesson the hard way and now I know; nothing goes according to plan when throwing a party. At least the guy in charge of craft services nailed his job. I’m talking 10-foot sub, chips, candy, healthy snacks for those people, and a wide variety of refreshments. Thank you, Jerry.
What did you learn from your time on The Voice?
I learned that I needed to go to college. Once I got to college I learned why. Go ‘Canes!
What role does New Jersey play in your writing?
New Jersey is my home. It’s role in my life affects me much more deeply than in just my writing. But I suppose, in a sense, being a rocker from Jersey gives me some pretty large shoes to fill. I look at it as a motivator to be awesome.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
You can definitely expect new music. I have enough for several albums; but I wouldn’t want to overwhelm anyone, including myself, so we will most likely be releasing singles for the time being.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
The next track will be “Can’t Stop.” And that’s all I have to say about that.
What else is happening next in Jared Dylan’s world?
Next on the list is learn how to fence. I’ve been dying to have a good sword fight. And soon I may be dying from having one. Maybe I’ll just learn to tango… Stay tuned.
