Hi PRIME, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
It’s been very busy. But good busy! Writing and producing new songs. Hoping to release them very soon
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Satellite”?
“Satellite” is a song about an artist’s hunger to achieve his dreams. It’s a representation of the people that may disapprove of them or who also may be envious.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
I think we’re all surrounded by “Satellites.” At times, they may even be the people that love and care for us. Their intentions can be good, but it’s hard to focus when you’re pursuing a dream and someone’s in your ear with negativity.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
We were planning on shooting a music video for it. Unfortunately, due to time constraints and the amount of work on our plate – it just wasn’t possible. However, we’re about to shoot a music video for the upcoming single, and we’re very excited about that.
How was the recording and writing process?
The melodies come to me first. And they come to me at the most obscure time – in the middle of a conversation, watching TV, running errands, or doing laundry… when I’m told to write on the spot, that’s a bit more challenging.
I remember writing “Satellite” while waiting for a friend at the train station. “Oh… I’m trying to free up my mind…” was the first lyric and melody. The rest grew from there.
What role does NYC play in your writing?
Everything. This is the place where people are proud to be different but come together regardless of ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, language, religions, sexual orientation, and background. I can walk out of my apartment and say, “I’m in the mood for Ethiopian food…” and then on a whim, change my mind to pizza – and they’re all within a few blocks of or just a train hop away. And stories can be shared just by sitting on a bench with a stranger.
How do all of your cultural upbringings influence your music?
I think being culturally diverse made me more open to music in general. I listen to music without prejudice. If I like the flavor, I dive in.
Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
For now, the goal is to release a couple of singles. I’d like to explore music without a roadmap. We’ll see.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
For releases, February feels good. For some reason, February’s been good to me haha.
Any plans to hit the road?
As of now, no. My focus is on writing new material and producing.
What else is happening in PRIME’s world?
Recently, I’ve really gotten into the production end of things. This is exciting because now, I’ll be able to release music without delay. This allows me to streamline my process because I’m relying on just myself and KOLL (Kristina Olga Lorenzo Lomboy).
