Listen to Harlee’s debut track “Holding On” – available everywhere now!
“The song is about holding on to a person or situation because you’re afraid to let go,” Harlee explains. “You don’t know whether holding on is the right thing to do, but you’re intimidated by the uncertainty of what could come next. I think it’s relatable to everyone because a lot of people get caught up in different relationships and circumstances in which they just feel stuck.”
5Towns Records is releasing “Holding On,”out today, and a debut EP will follow shortly thereafter. Harlee is co-writing all of the music for her upcoming EP and has collaborated with producers including Sky Adams (Ella Eyre, Rixton), and Knightstarr (Anne-Marie, Janelle Monae).
It only takes one listen to Harlee’s debut single, “Holding On,” to know she is very much a natural. Her richly-textured alto is equal parts grit and grace. Already, Harlee’s music feels both vulnerable and self-assured, which is rare for a new artist. But she’s been putting in her 10,000 hours—in terms of both singing and songwriting—for years, starting at age 11, when she began covering songs and posting them on her YouTube channel. At 12, she was gigging wherever she could in cities like Liverpool and Manchester. By 13, she was penning her own tracks. And this summer, at 17, after years of honing her craft, she signed to Steve Madden’s 5Towns Records.
