The emotional companion video for “Imagine That” was directed by Pasqual Gutierrez and filmed in Gates’ hometown of Baton Rouge, LA, and stars his entire family – including his wife/manger Dreka, his daughter Islah, who performs lyrically throughout the clip, and his son Khaza. Members of Gates’ BWA family are also featured throughout the heart-wrenching video. WATCH “IMAGINE THAT” HERE.
“I’m sure many of you out there can relate to this, but not having my husband/best friend/father to my children home right now, makes our life really hard sometimes. It’s the simple things like birthday parties and family gatherings that we take for granted. And it’s tough for our kids to understand. I empathize with any of you out there going thru the same thing, with loved ones who are locked up. Hopefully this video will connect with you guys.”– Dreka Gates
Though currently incarcerated by the Illinois Board of Corrections, Gates surprised fans around the world earlier this month with the release of a new visual accompanying his acclaimed single, “What If,” available now for download and streaming. The emotional video arrived alongside a deeply personal handwritten message posted on the multi-platinum certified rap superstar’s official Instagram – Gates’ first public statement since his October 2016 imprisonment. The powerful visual for “What If” is streaming now at Gates’ official YouTube channel.
“BY ANY MEANS 2” is highlighted by the chart-topping hit, “No Love,” which instantly shot to #1 on the iTunes Store’s “Top Hip-Hop/Rap Songs” chart while its official audio has earned more than 4 million individual plays via YouTube alone.
As if that were not enough, Gates also heralded “BY ANY MEANS 2” with the new tracks, “Beautiful Scars (Feat. PnB Rock)” and “Had To,” both available now at all DSPs and streaming services. “Gates’ most personal project yet,” raved HotNewHipHop upon the latter single’s release. “What’s most impressive about Gates’ performance on this joint is his versatile delivery. The track is dually powerful considering Gates’ current predicament, and lyrics alluding to “snakes in the grass” take on a whole deeper meaning.”
