South Carolina-based alt-pop duo Glass Mansions have been hard at work gearing up to unveil new music and kick off their Fall Tour. “On the outside, ‘Just Friends’ is a raw, sassy song all about flirting with the enemy – but if you look deeper than the surface, you’d see it’s really a song about one’s demons and personal relationship with misery,” says lead singer Jayna Doyle. “Some of us are the all-or-nothing type in our relationships & situationships – often reminded that we are too much to handle; however, we are not too much and we aren’t weak for wearing our hearts on our sleeves when we bare it all. Enough rejection and a person will start to guard themselves so much that misery becomes the better company than being ‘just friends’ with a person you can’t have.”

And when it comes to the sound of “Just Friends” – a melding of the group’s signature pop flourishes with the rock n’ roll swagger that defines their live shows – Doyle sees it as a natural evolution. “I definitely think this is a sonic progression in the direction towards which we’d been steadily evolving. We wanted to deconstruct our entire setup and write songs more organically, using snaps and other alternative sounds as well as electronic beats as percussion. Capturing the raw vibe present in our original demo was at the forefront of importance when we went in to work with ZK again. In the studio, Zack Odom & Kenneth Mount always bring out the best in us and this is just the latest proof of that. We’re very proud of seeing this one realized and are excited to finally share!”

Next month, the group will be releasing a “Just Friends” music video to accompany the single, as well as embarking on a Fall Tour in November – all in anticipation of Glass Mansion’s next EP which is scheduled for an early 2018 release.
