TEXAS STRONG: HARVEY CAN’T MESS WITH TEXAS: BENEFIT CONCERT FOR HURRICANE HARVEY RELIEF PREMIERES TONIGHT AT 9 PM CT

The sold-out Harvey Can’t Mess With Texas: A Benefit Concert for Hurricane Harvey Relief at the Frank Erwin Center will be broadcast in nearly all television markets across Texas without commercial interruption and will stream on YouTube.com/TexasStrong, 93.3. KGSR and KVET-FM in Austin, and KUHF News 88.7 in Houston from 9-10pm CT tonight, Friday, September 22.

The largest live concert benefit in Texas will feature exclusive performances and rare collaborations from Willie Nelson, Paul Simon, James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, Leon Bridges, Lyle Lovett, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, Ryan Bingham, Ha*Ash, and multiple special guests. The evening will include special appearances by Matthew McConaughey, Renée Zellweger, Luke Wilson, Andy Roddick, Brooklyn Decker, Camila Alves, Austin Mayor Steve Adler, Houston Chief of Police Art Acevedo, and many more. Charlie Sexton will serve as Music Director, with Asleep at the Wheel sitting in as the house band.

TEGNA, Inc. (NYSE: TEGNA) is funding and producing the broadcast in partnership with Debra Davis Productions. All of TEGNA’s Texas stations plus others in the state will broadcast the concert special from 9-10pm CT and stream the broadcast across their websites and YouTube channels.  Participating stations include: WFAA, Dallas; KHOU, Houston; KVUE, Austin; KENS, San Antonio; KBMT, Beaumont; KCEN, Waco-Temple-Bryan; KAGS, College Station; KIII, Corpus Christi; KYTX, Tyler; KIDY, San Angelo; and KXVA, Abilene.  The broadcast will also be available on local Texas stations KAMR/KCPN, Amarillo; KFDX, Wichita Falls; KMID, Midland/Odessa; KVEO, Harlingten/Brownsville/McAllen and KCBD, Lubbock.

Proceeds will benefit Rebuild Texas Fund, created by the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation in collaboration with the OneStar Foundation. Google will match the first $500,000 of donations through a pledge challenge. Viewers can donate to the Rebuild Texas Fund in multiple ways:

  • TELEPHONE:  Call 1-833-2-HELPTX. Volunteers from Google’s Austin office and TEGNA employees will staff the phone banks at select station locations across the state and at TEGNA’s headquarters in Virginia.
