Metric frontwoman Emily Haines’ upcoming album “Choir of the Mind” out today, North American tour kicks off Nov 28

Choir of the Mind, the new album from Metric frontwoman Emily Haines’ solo project,The Soft Skelton, is out today via Last Gang Records/eOne. The LP marks her first solo album in a decade, following Haines’ previous solo efforts, Knives Don’t Have Your Back (2006) and its companion EP What Is Free To A Good Home? (2007). Order the record HERE.

In celebration of the release, Haines will be performing limited engagements in intimate venues which she handpicked. See below for a list of dates on sale and view the tour trailer HERE.

Haines recently premiered the video for the album track “Statuette” in conjunction withinternational advocacy organization Global Citizen as part of their She Decides campaign; view video HERE. The video for the track “Planets,” directed by Justin Broadbent, who also designed the album artwork, can be viewed/shared HERE, and the video for album’s first single, “Fatal Gift,” can be viewed HERE.

Where Haines’ two previous solo offerings largely dealt with her processing and grieving the loss of her father, the revered writer, poet and jazz lyricist Paul Haines, Emily continues to grapple with some of the harder-edged life subjects on her new LP: life, loss and being a woman in the world.

Choir of the Mind was largely composed in stolen moments with her piano over the past few years of intensive work with Metric. It was recorded over a number of weeks in 2016 at Giant Studios on the West end of Toronto where Emily and spiritual advisor and musical partner Jimmy Shaw have each lived and worked for the past two decades. The album was co-produced by Emily and Jimmy (who also mixed the album) and engineered by Kenny Luong. Sparklehorse drummer Scott Minor, who also appeared on the original Soft Skeleton recordings, returns on the track “Legend of the Wild Horse.”
