INTERVIEW: HiRSH

Hi HiRSH, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey, thanks for having me. I’ve been so good. Just doing the thing.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Time”?

I typically have a love/hate relationship with my work. Depending on the day. Or my current state of mind. I write and re-write for days. Time however was a bit of an anomaly. It literally fell out of me and it was done. It doesn’t happen often but it’s so special when it does. The song from the get go felt simple and poignant and honest and i love that about it. It’s safe to say I have a complicated relationship with most of my songs. ‘Time’ and I have never had issues, so that’s pretty cool.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I wrote this tune shortly before last year’s election. It was an strange time and I personally was seeing/feeling an existing divisiveness that I had never felt so powerfully before. This song was cry out. Can we please find the same page. It’s so clear to me that we’re all on the wild journey together. ALL of us. Why is it still so hard?

How was the film experience?

So rad. It was all guerrilla style and we had one goal; talk to, connect, hug as many strangers on the street that I could find. And it played out beautifully.

How was the recording and writing process?

Like I mentioned this song was so painless. A fellow musician/collaborator friend of mind sent the initial musical idea and I fell in love. 30 minutes later I sent back what is now ‘Time’. Almost no edits. It just worked.

What role does LA play in your writing?

A big one. LA is my city, my home, my life and my vibe. It’s the backdrop to all that I do as an artist. I try and lean into that as much as possible.

Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?

Actually, no. Time is the first installment of a monthly single release plan that I’ve drawn up for my project. For the next 6 months or so I plan to release a new song/video every first Friday. Be super consistent with new music but focus singles for awhile. And take it from there. I suppose after 9 months of this strict diet I could put together an EP or an LP project with the work, but I’m not super focused on that right now. So, yea.. check in with me later?

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I’m dropping ‘Burn up Alive’ on the first Friday of next month (Oct) I actually just caught a rough cut of the video… I’m v. excited.

Any plans to hit the road?

I would love to tour and it’s definitely on my radar, but it doesn’t make right now. Working on building the sound, new content and building a core fanbase. But certainly when the moment is right it’ll be time to go. And I’ll be more than ready for it.

What else is happening next in HiRSH’s world?

Consistency is key. Drop new music and video content every month and work the live show hard. Just keep that focus. I also do a weekly raw IG video every Tuesday called #stairwellsessions. Instagram.com/hirshmusic

Just make music, man. Make the it best we can. Share it. Rinse and repeat. ✌????
