INTERVIEW: Wez

Hi Wez, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I have been good, just enjoying the summer vibe.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Touch You There”?

It’s out now… You can hear it this second. It’s a vibe I came up with at Snow Bombing in Austria with Disciples about a personal experience. It is a fusion of sounds and I’m excited coz it’s my first release this year.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

At the time I was writing about a specific person, but it actually applies to a few people I have been involved with lol.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

I definitely have plans to re-enact it visually

How was the recording and writing process?

It was good… I came up with the hook in Austria, just freestyling with the boys having some fun and we came up with the melodies and verses in a studio session back in the UK in Shoreditch.

Its good working with my close friend Luke from Disciples because he is a genius when it comes to arranging and Dival from Disciples is a genius at recording!

Known for playing with different styles from EDM and electronica – do you try to balance them together or does one particular style tends to shine out the most depending on the lyrics’ theme?

I like to mix and blend. I like a fusion of sounds – I have even started to put a bit of urban into the classic house sound which gives it a rougher, dirtier edge.

What was it like to work with Disciples and how did that relationship develop?

Well, Luke is a long term friend and he introduced me to his friends Duvall and Gavin. We clicked straight away and have been rolling ever since, from ‘Remedy’ times, through to ‘How Deep is your Love’ up until the present with their latest hit ‘On My Mind’.

How much did they influence the song?

The beat is them, they gave it the ‘Disciples touch’! It’s the collaboration between our ideas which make it extra special.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else than when you are writing in your own?

Yeah, when I write on my own it’s more raw rough and rugged and I speak my mind fully (Chuckles). But when I work with others, I get their influences and input as well which brings out a different element.

Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?

Yeah, I am working towards a body of music at the moment.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Well, I am caught between two titles. I may also get some help on social media when I am ready.

Any plans to hit the road?

Of course! That’s where I connect the most with people.

What else is happening next in Wez’s world?

I am just looking to take over really! Collaborating with others is what interests me – artists like J Hus! As I mentioned I have been fusing urban and house, bringing those worlds together sort of how the likes of Diplo and Calvin Harris have been doing with Migos and Pharrell Williams. That’s where my heart lies.
