Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Kings and Queens”?
Yeah. Kings and Queens is a song idea I’ve had for a while that is basically a take on the ole “the King is dead, long live the King.” It touches upon the idea of power and life in general’s transitory nature. It is anti-elitist in the sense that in my opinion, no person is any better than any other person and once the people have spoken, our leaders should listen to the people or…..off with their heads (lol.)
Did any event, in particular, inspire you to write this song?
Well all the political ups and downs over the last few years certainly inspired it. Seems our elected officials don’t give a damn about what the people want and are only in politics for their own benefit. Think Bastille Day.
What made you want to make an animated video?
I like the idea of metaphor in music so I wanted the video to be about a dream this person has. A dream lends itself to interesting visuals so you are never quite sure what is going on.
How was the film experience?
I made this video myself. I really didn’t know much about making a video and I wanted to learn how to do it, so I taught myself. It took quite a while because of the learning curve. It was tough but a lot of fun when you get past the frustration. I made every mistake you can make.
How was the recording and writing process?
This process is always fun for me. I write the music in the studio and the lyrics in my head usually when I’m mountain biking. After the music is put together, I cut vocals to ruff tracks. Once I’m happy with the vocals, I finish up the tune and then mix it.
Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
I don’t know about albums anymore. I’m more interested in a steady but spread out flow of songs with videos.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
There will be a brand new song in a few weeks followed by a video for the song a couple of weeks after that. The song is called The Medium is the Message. The video is shaping up to be really cool, but I’m not giving it’s plot away.
Any plans to hit the road?
None. I don’t play live. I’m a studio rat. I’m a composer by trade but then again, you never know.
