Bayside Kickoff Tour Dates for the 10th Anniversary of the “The Walking Wounded””
Bayside has announced The Walking Wounded Tour; a series of US headline shows celebrating the 10th anniversary of their 3rd full-length album. Their album The Walking Wounded is out now on Craft Recordings.
Originally hailing from Queens, NYC – Bayside formed in the winter of 2000 and quickly developed a following with their melodic, moody, guitar-driven sound. Along with relentless live schedule (touring with artists including Alkaline Trio and Taking Back Sunday), the band utilized community-orientated websites like Friendster and MySpace to promote their music and build up a loyal underground fanbase.
As with many young bands, various lineup changes occurred throughout their early years. In 2004, Anthony Raneri (vocals/guitar) and Jack O’Shea (guitar) were joined by bassist Nick Ghanbarian (ex-Movielife, Silent Majority) and N.Y.C. veteran drummer John “Beatz” Holohan.
In the fall of 2005, with their 2nd album completed, the band hit the road with Hawthorne Heights, Silverstein and Aiden on the Never Sleep Again tour. But on the morning of October 31st, their van hit a patch of ice and flipped over on the way to their show in Salt Lake City. Holohan was tragically killed in the accident and Ghanbarian severely injured. Grieving the loss, Bayside cancelled several shows before Raneri and O’Shea decided to honor their friends by pressing on as an acoustic duo. The tour culminated at Chicago’s House of Blues, where the band recorded the performance and released a CD/Live DVD called “Acoustic”,which included a new track, “Winter,” as a tribute to Holohan.
With Ghanbarian fully recovered and a new drummer Chris Guglielmo on board, the band began working on their new album in 2006 – The Walking Wounded was released in 2007. The album found the band not explicitly focusing on their earlier tragedy, but instead on survival and moving forward. Lead tracks included the singles Duality, and Carry On.
“The Walking Wounded was a really important record for us both personally and career wise. It was the record that got us back on our feet after our accident and also marked a big breakout for us professionally,” lead singer Anthony Raneri explains. “It was the first record and touring cycle that we did with the current lineup. We felt it was important to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of such an important time in our lives.”
He adds: “We wanted this to be more of an event. A celebration. So instead of doing the shows on a grand scale, we decided to only do a few of them and scale back the sizes of the venues from where we’ve been playing for the last few years. We wanted this to feel special for the fans in attendance and for us on stage.”
The 10-day run kicks off in Baltimore on September 6th and concludes at Riot Fest in Chicago on September 16th. Bayside will also be bringing the album to Santa Ana on November 4th, as well as the U.K. for multiple dates in December.
