Sir Mo Farah signs up for #Game4Grenfell

The British distance great will join an illustrious list of names from the world of sport and entertainment for the special match at QPR’s Loftus Road stadium this weekend (September 2nd), which will act as a community event to give something back to those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire, using football as a powerful tool to unite the people of North Kensington and the wider community.

Farah, of course, raced for the final time on the track at the Zurich Diamond League meeting on Thursday, having opted to switch to road racing for 2018 – but before that, he’s excited about replacing his athletic spikes for his football boots for a special cause in West London.

Sir Mo Farah said: “Like everyone else, I was shocked and incredibly upset by what happened at Grenfell Tower. I grew up in West London, and have friends and family who live in the area, so to see a tragedy like that take place was just heart-breaking. Watch here

“But the way that people in the community have come together since then is amazing, and something I find incredibly inspiring. That’s why I’m excited to be taking part in the Game4Grenfell – it will help raise money for survivors and those affected by the fire, but it will also show the community how much we care.

“My football skills are pretty rusty, but I can’t wait to get my boots on and see what I can do!”

Tickets for #Game4Grenfell are priced £15 for adults and £5 concessions.

Monies raised from ticket sales and other fundraising initiatives around the event will be passed directly to the London Community Foundation for allocation to the Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund, distributing funds to survivors and the wider community affected by the fire.

Farah’s participation is sure to add extra glitz and glamour to an already stellar line-up, that includes a number of famous ex-pros, such as Les Ferdinand, Alan Shearer, David Seaman, Trevor Sinclair and Paul Merson.

Peter Crouch will also feature, alongside his firefighter friend Gregg Jules, who was directly involved in the relief effort.

In addition, Marcus Mumford, Olly Murs, Iain Glen, Wretch 32, Ben Shephard, Damian Lewis, DJ Spoony, Tinie Tempah, Ed Westwick, Jarvis Cocker, Darren Campbell, Jamie Dornan, Richard Ashcroft, Serge Pizzorno, Tamer Hassan, Ben Cohen and James Bay are amongst those set to feature too, in what promises to be a day to remember for the West London community.

Over 2,000 complimentary tickets will be issued to those directly affected by the tragedy, including families, the emergency services, volunteers, local residents and those who played their part in the recovery efforts in North Kensington.
