Singer-songwriter Rich Stephenson has returned with Secret, the first new material since his well-received I AM RICH (Blue) EP last year. The song marks an evolution from his previously-established nimble folk-pop into darker songwriting that draws on blues and soul influences.
After audience-charming performances at Glastonbury, Boardmasters, Humber Street Sesh and Beverley Folk Festivals, last Autumn’s colour-coded EP release I AM RICH (Blue) cemented Stephenson’s place as one of the best emerging singer-songwriters in the UK. Confirmed fans Gaby Roslin and Alan Raw invited him in for live sessions with BBC Radio London and BBC Introducing, whilst music lovers around the UK discovered Rich with airplay on 40 BBC regional stations.
Secret moves on from the poppier choruses of his previous songs without losing his talent for melodic hooks. “Secret is a dark reimagining of one of my early tracks with producer Nick Harding” explains Stephenson. “Taking out my signature acoustic guitars and adding brooding organs, wailing vocal harmonies and hypnotic drum rhythms, we explore the darker side to my songwriting. What’s your dirty little secret?’”.
