I have recently released my debut single so I have been very well, thank you!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Edge of the Night”?
Yes, Absolutely! It’s my first release as an artist and a way of introducing myself to music industry, so this is a very important time for me.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
As it says in the title of the song ‘Edge Of The Night’ is inspired by one of the nights out in London approximately a year ago. As I was coming back home with my friends, I had this déjà vu moment when I just remembered that I had done that before but in the different place at different time with different people. And it was so strong that when I woke up the next day I still remembered this emotion which inspired me to write the song about how much my life had changed.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Music video is already out. It was released a week after the official single release.
How was the recording and writing process?
This song was initially written for a piano, and actually if you strip it off of all the production you get a really nice ballad. The song changed several times, not just because of me changing my mind but mainly because of all the people that I worked with. Me as a creative person I do appreciate constructive ideas and feedback, and I was lucky enough that I got to work with a lot of talented and creative people that influenced this song to the point where it is now.
What role does London play in your writing?
London music scene and lifestyle play a huge part in my artist project. I moved to London when I was 18 and I have worked with a lot of London based musicians, producers and been part of London music scene since that age, which is a crucial age when it comes to choosing what direction you want to go in your personal life as well as career.
Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
Not album yet but you can definitely expect a couple of singles, and the next one will be out this year in late November.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
As I said late November or early December. I don’t want to give the name out yet as it might change but it will be a little bit quirkier pop song compared to the ‘Edge Of The Night’ and musically speaking, it will definitely have that London musical edge to it.
Any plans to hit the road?
I am planning on doing a couple of small shows in London later this year, dates and the names of venues will be on my website www.garyjnow.com
What else is happening next in Gary J’s world?
As I have said already, you can expect some more singles from me before I decide to release a full album, which might be next year. And definitely some shows and gigs in London.
