From their native Paris suburbs, to their lives in London, The Penelopes, formed by Axel Basquiat and Vincent T have turned their attention from remixing the likes of Lana Del Rey, Pet Shop Boys, and Alt-J to composing music for film for Asia Argento and others. The Penelopes have recently played DJ Set at The Lighthouse in Shoreditch as well as Razzmatazz, Barcelona and now the French duo offer a Deluxe version of the ‘Leave Them All Behind’ EP featuring remixes from Mighty Mouse, Blende and Night Drive. ‘Mulholland Drive’ sets the gorgeous, nostalgic tone for songs about loneliness and isolation – A moody, glamorous track that evokes the best of 90 and 00s Paris, that is also offered in the form of a Mighty Mouse remix, who took time away from side project Du Tonc to add his innovative, disco-influenced stamp on this beautifully-formed gem. Moving through the EP you pick up on jewels like ‘Roses’, a track that offers a juxtaposition between intimacy and melancholy, alongside a decadent remix from Swedish born producer Blende who’s love of mixing modern dance vibes with classic pop sounds of the 70s and 80s perfectly compliments The Penelopes romanticist pop sound.
