INTERVIEW: C. K. Flach

Hi CK, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been well.

Can you talk to us more about your song “Empty Mansions”?

Sure. Empty Mansions takes a hard look at where certain facets of society lie and then prods the listener to accept that and move forward in a better direction. It’s different for everyone of course, but the message is the same.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I wouldn’t say any one in particular. It’s more generally speaking than specific.

Any plans to release a video for the track?

Not at the moment. I’m mostly focused on writing new material.

Why naming the record after this song in particular?

It was actually the other way around. I had the name Empty Mansions in my head for the record and the song itself came from that.

How was the recording and writing process?

It was testing. I did a lot of re-writing and editing when it came to lyrics and music. With recording, there was a lot of planning and forethought to how I would be able to capture each instrument with the best result.

What moved you to write such a spiritual-filled record?

I couldn’t help it. It wasn’t pre-meditated, but I guess that’s what’s nice about it.

What aspect of loneliness and moving on did you get to explore on this record?

I think I focused on the idea of not getting stuck, you know? I wanted to demonstrate to the listener that you’re not alone in your circumstances and things can always change and turn around.

Any plans to hit the road?

No, Not yet.

What else is happening next in CK Flach’s world?

Looking ahead I want to make another record. I’ve met some new people to work with and I’m excited to hear what we come up with.
