Hi! We’re doing well. Life has been hectic for all of us lately, we’re getting a lot done!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Mudroom“?
Well, “Mudroom” is just about the heaviest type of rock we play, it’s riff has been deemed metal by some. It’s a high energy rock song about the complicated relationship between society and modern technology.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Not an event, but a phenomenon. We’re often thankful for the ways technology makes our lives more convenient, but we also have to reconcile the way it complicates our lives, especially communication-wise. The duality was the inspiration in a nutshell.
Any plans to release a video for the single? While we do have plans for a new music video, “Mudroom” has a live video we shot at our performance during the 2016 Battle For The Bronx Skate Competition. Playing at a skate park was a great time and we figured it would be an interesting place to put together a video.
How was the recording and writing process?
Well, the writing process is ongoing. Often, when we put together a recording we’ll either pick songs we’ve finished years ago or the ones that are starting to look promising. In terms of the recording, we’ve had a good time trying out different studios for different recordings to figure out what we prefer when it comes to equipment and to approaches to the recording itself. At this point, the learning process of recording is the most rewarding.
How has Silverchair influenced your writing?
Silverchair is a really good band! They’ve changed a lot over so many albums. I have to say though, when it comes to bands that influence our sound the most, it would have to be Stone Temple Pilots and Tool, bands like that.
Does the new single mean we can expect any new material – how’s that coming along?
We are working on something new as a matter of fact! It’s an EP with a wide range of styles. It’s a mix of older material, songs we’ve played live but never recorded, and newer ideas that we were excited to complete.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
This one is out in September. It’s called The Knockoff.
What aspect of alienation with society and technology would you be exploring on this record?
That concept is primarily addressed with “Mudroom” itself. This next effort explores a variety of topics.
I would say shades of desperation, whether in a realistic, frustrated context or musically just having the feeling of “out of the frying pan into the fire.”
Any plans to hit the road?
The end of this year or early 2018 we’ll be on an East Coast tour. We’re still working out details with a few bands we enjoy playing with.
What else is happening next in Between The Rain‘s world?
We’ve got a lot of New York City shows coming up, you can find those dates on our Instagram or Facebook. Beyond that, just polishing up the EP. Check out The Knockoff next month on Spotify!
