Can you talk to us more about your latest single “HGX”?

HGX is a dance song that can sneak up on you. It’s easy to move and sing along to, but the lyrics might give you something you may not have expected.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Jared: Yeah, the main reason HGX got written was because I wanted to impress Kianna after she told me that she was a rabid fan of Timbaland. I went straight to my keyboard and came up with that main riff and beat, which, in my mind, sounded like something Timbaland might do. I’m not sure that it does, but I do know Kianna loved it immediately and we had something good going.

How was the film experience?

Kianna: It was pretty easy and fun! We just had to perform the song over and over starting in the daylight and going through the evening. The shots in the water were a little stressful because there were lights set up on a ledge behind the me and they didn’t exactly look sturdy. So I was slightly nervous the whole time that I might die of electrocution.. but other than that it was fun!

How was the recording and writing process?

Kianna: The process with writing is always different but it’s usually a back and forth between Jared and I, but for this song he pretty much got inspired and just wrote the whole song in one sitting. Easy for me! 😉 Recording, in general, has been a much more challenging process. The song has changed and improved as we’ve gone along in the recording and post production of it. Doing the vocals on this one was really fun because its got quite a bit of character and sass.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Kianna: Yes, we actually have a ton of new songs that are being mixed right now and it’s coming along great! We aren’t sure what’s going to happen with the material yet, we are currently unsigned, so we’ll see!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Kianna: We don’t have any idea about a release date yet, but it will probably be sometime in the first part of 2018. We have a few titles swirling around, but nothing picked out yet, even tentatively.

After the success of this recent track, are you feeling any nervous as you work on the songs for this new material?

Jared: We are incredibly grateful that the song is taking off and only feel more motivation to keep going and makethe best stuff we possibly can. We can’t wait for people to hear the new songs!

Any plans to hit the road?

Jared: No plans set in motion yet, but we would love to tour as soon as possible, probably as soon as the new material comes out.

What else is happening next in Yes You Are’s world?

Kianna: We are just busy rehearsing for the shows we have coming up as well as getting really excited each time we get a finished mixes back from our producer, which is happening more and more this week!
