Great thank you. I’m in London this week playing some shows so very happy.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Someone Else“?
Someone Else’ is a song written for the ‘free spirit’. However, it portrays a sense of sadness and trouble at times. It’s about how sometimes we just simply ‘dont know how to be’. I want listeners to be able to relate to this feeling but to also know that we shouldn’t be too hard on ourselves. It’s okay to feel lost at times. We don’t always know how to ‘Keep it together’ but that’s okay. In the end, we are just human and figuring all this all out as we go along.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Yes. Many events inspired me to write this song.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Not for this one. But we are planning to release a video for the second single.
How was the recording and writing process?
I wrote the song in Nashville with two great writers called Boots and Remy. My Manager put the session in as a last minute one as I already had three sessions in that day. We had one hour so got the guitars out and it kinda just happened very quick. That night I went back to my hotel and listened to the demo we recorded on my phone. I called up Boots and Remy the next day and said I had a feeling about the song and wanted to get it down asap. So before my flight back to New York the next day, I went back to the studio and we recorded an acoustic version for demo purposes.
What was it like to work with Doug Schadt and how did that relationship develop?
Doug is great and an incredibly talented producer. We spent two days together over in his studio in Brooklyn. I turned up to his place and he said he had made a rough idea the night before. He played it to me and I knew instantly I loved it. His vision and direction for the song was spot on.
How has NYC influenced your writing?
New York has massively influenced my writing. When I arrived for the first time to this city, I spent the first night walking round till 3am fascinated. I am fortunate to have access to a great studio every day which allows me to be creative and get my ideas down straight away. The energy here is electric. Everyday I see or hear things, that I write down in my notes on my phone that inspire me.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Yes. I will be heading to Nashville soon over the next few weeks to record the second single. I can’t wait to get started on it!
Any plans to hit the road?
Yes we just played Benicassim Festival in Spain where Red Hot Chili Peppers and Kasabian headlined. I am currently in London playing a week of shows and heading back to New York next week. Some dates will be added soon!
