Hi Adam, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
I’ve been amazing actually! I’m talking to you from Cyprus as I needed some sun as London weather has been a bit shit and grey summers make me moody!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Before The Sun Goes Down“?
It kind of just happened one night and I wrote it quite quickly. I produced the instrumental and had a completely different top line for it but then recorded it and hated it and then I got high on Cacao and it kind of just flowed…
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Life! It’s a song about changing out of a fear mentality before it’s too late. My favourite lyric is “when did you build this house of fear? You sit with a shotgun on the porch and you won’t let nobody near..”
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Yes! It’s ready and should be up pretty soon. I’m really proud of it. It was shot with Vasilisa Forbes who also did the Flamingos video and it has more narrative and is almost like a spiritual journey.
How was the recording and writing process?
I record alone, I write alone, I am mostly alone but it’s cool, I’m learning to love myself. I spend a lot of time in the vocal booth recording bits as I never have a set melody before recording and like to experiment.
After the success from your previous track, were you any nervous while working on this newest single?
I’m always nervous about sharing what I write in general. The writing process is so sacred and sealed and then I worry that when I put it out it will become contaminated in some way.
How’s your new EP coming along?
It’s done apart from a few tweaks and I’m really happy with it, mostly. My favourite song is called Witches and it’s a bit deranged but it has a great flow to it and takes some unusual twists and turns.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Nope and nope! All TBC at the moment!
The last two singles have had two different sounds – would you keep exploring other styles throughout this new material?
I think the road to making an album is all about experimentation and taking risks until you find your way. I think Flamingos and Before The Sun Goes Down ARE very different production wise but I think my essence is there on both which ties them together.
Any plans to hit the road?
No plans but I’d love to! I’m petrified but I also love the idea of playing my music to a room full of people singing along.
What else is happening next in Adam Prince King‘s world?
I’m in the process of signing the EP to a label who really believe in what I’m doing so I’m hoping that will open some doors for my songs. Let’s see where the wave takes me!
Hi David, welcome to VENTS! How have you been? Things are good, thanks so much …
