Hi MIDI, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi I’ve been great! Definitely living the dream lately. Have yet to experience jet lag though so that’s a plus!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Eat”?

Yeah of course. ‘Eat’ is a track featuring my older sister CoCo McPuffington. it’s our second collaboration and one of my favorites when it comes to collaborations. We’ve been working on it for over a year. Definitely a summer anthem and a family-oriented anthem as well. I remember when i was just completing the producing process of the track and I needed to show it off to someone like as soon as possible. My sister was in the other room and I showed it to her and she was like “Lemme hop on this track!”

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

The writing was definitely inspired by our hardworking and loving mom. She goes way out of her way for all 7 of her children (and family in general) which really sparked the idea of calling this song an anthem as a whole. An anthem for the hardworking parents that work day and night everyday just to be able to put food on the table for their young.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Oh definitely! Hoping to have at least 5 music videos out by my upcoming birthday.

The single comes off your new album Road Trip– what’s the story behind the title?

The story behind Road Trip album title is that usually, more often than not when you go on a road trip you get very inspired. Inspired by the nature you pass by, the beautiful amazing new faces you encounter and even the old ones. I got very inspired late last year to push harder. I’ve been to many places I thought i’d never see in my lifetime, but my dedication and the inspiration I received in those moments got me to those places in such positive spirits. This album is for those looking for inspiration, those who want to go higher but feel stuck.

How was the recording and writing process?

When it comes to the writing process, I’m never really as involved anymore as I used to be. It’s more like “I want this song to be about politics, so let’s try to send a political message.” I like to give songwriters more leisure when it comes to writing all while giving them that subject boost. Recording artists has been much easier ever since teaming up with the new label. They have a beautiful studio just upstate from where I live and has been very convenient to me and I hate going there because I never wanna leave haha.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else than when you are writing in your own?

Oh yeah, because when I’m writing my own stuff; I know what to expect so it’s very hard for me to take myself out of my comfort zone. The thing i love about working with other artists is taking them out of their comfort zone and helping them reach that untapped potential.

What role does NJ plays in your music?

I used to think NJ actually played a part in my music. But honestly I can’t say it does anymore. The music scene here in NJ is very different from what i’m making and some would say NJ is lacking in the electronic music scene. If anything, i’m representing NJ to let the rest of the nation and world know that there are people here heavily involved in the scene and we’re here to stay.

Where do you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

Most of my inspiration stems from being around such a small but largely positive group of people that i’m proud to call my friends. There’s also nature that inspires me endlessly as well as meditation. I’ve also been listening to a lot of new music. Such as Katy Perry’s new album Witness and Dua Lipa’s self-titled album as well as SZA’s Ctrl album. Seeing and hearing what the women in music are doing today is something very beautiful and I’m very happy to be a witness of it all.

Any plans to hit the road?

I’ve been hitting the road all year, but nothing beats the feeling of being home. I started my Kawaii Tour with friends which is a statewide tour for California regions being that’s where my diehards all reside. We wrapped up part one of the tour in mid-June. Now we have part 2 coming up with a lot more acts than last time. Very excited to show off the new music.

What else is happening next in MIDIFlexx’s world?

Well besides all the album stuff, I’m in the midst of closing the deal on creating a collective, inspired by my friends. It will include clothes, accessories and yes, music too. Also on top of that, i’m finishing a handful of remixes and I’m way too excited to play them live!
