Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Chango”?
We took a 2 week Safari in Africa and were really inspired by the animal sounds that surrounded the wild. So once we got back to the States, we translated those vibes into a song.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
We’re in talks with Sony PIctures and sent a whole trilogy proposal around it.
How was the recording and writing process?
Anthony: Woogie was actually the tour guide on our Safari and we found out he messed with beats on the side. We started hitting the studio, messing around with different sounds and rebirthed the song. As for the writing process, it was very fluid. We communicated our ideas smoothly with one another and figured out what we wanted the song to be.
Chris: The recording process was tedious because we had to fly back to the Congo to record true sounds (we don’t like using unoriginal samples). Overall, it was an enjoyable learning experience for us.
What role does NYC play in your writing?
There’s a heavy underground scene over here which is always influencing and inspiring us to dive into new projects. New York – we fuckin’ love you!
Do you tend to take a different approach when you are remixing or collaborating with someone else than when you are working in your own material?
Sometimes it’s different because when you’re doing stuff on your own, you’re just making music for yourself. But when you’re doing a remix, there’s probably a reason why they asked you to do it in the first place. Whether they liked some of your older stuff or they feel like you have a certain sound, and then we feel like we have to deliver. Sometimes it’s a lot of pressure – you either nail it or you don’t. So we just try to hit it out of the park whenever we do remixes.
Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
We’ve been working on our album for the past 16 years. So, expect something crazy soon!
Any plans to hit the road?
Yeah – we have plans to hit the road with our good friends Black Tiger Sex Machine, Riot Ten, and some other unannounced stuff. We’ll be headlining some shows also across the states and dropping a bunch of new music along the way.
