A) I’m very well thanks. Busy doing shows and traveling but enjoying every minute.
Q) Can you talk to us more about your song “Back Home Again”?
A) Back Home Again is a song written by the late John Denver. I’ve always loved the song and wanted to record it. This seemed like the right time.
Q) Any plans to release a video for the track?
A) We recorded a show for PBS Television. It was recorded in Dublin. As we had recorded a number of the previous shows in America it seemed an apt title.
Q) Why naming the album after this song in particular?
A) The album is a live album to accompany the TV show. Thus the same title.
Q) How was the recording and writing process?
A) Although I have written a number of songs throughout my career, I don’t consider myself a songwriter. The songs on this album are all written by other writers and quite a few are covers of well known songs.
Q) Can we then expect a pretty eclectic record?
A) I hope people will find the album very enjoyable. I love all the songs and we had a great time doing the show. The fact that it was recorded live gives it that live atmosphere.
Q) After fourteen albums under your belt – would you call this new record a back to roots material or are you rather evolving?
A) I suppose I always try to do something a little different when recording. However I have been very fortunate to have had great success with the type of music I love therefore I just keep singing what I love to sing.
I have recorded over 40 albums to date.
Q) Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
A) I had some original songs that I wanted to recorded. The others are just songs that I have always wanted to sing.
Q) How are you preparing for your upcoming Canadian tour?
A) We are really looking forward to coming to Canada. We have never done such an extensive tour of the country so it will be really exciting. We will tour in Ireland before we travel to Canada. We are just about to start rehearsals.
Q) Does your set change depending on a particular element (city, country, venue)?
A) We have a set list but from night we may add a few different songs. Sometimes people request a song and if we can we try to fit it in.
Q) I understand you are once again breaking some records with this tour – are you feeling nervous or have you gotten used to it at this point?
A) I’m always a little nervous before going on stage but once out there I relax and enjoy.
Q) What can Canadian fans expect?
A) Lots of familiar songs from albums we’ve recorded through the years and a few new once thrown in for good measure.
Q) What is happening next in Daniel O’Donnell’s world?
A) I’ve just finished recorded a new album and as I said we are about to start a 3 week tour here in Ireland. Then we are Canada bound.
