INTERVIEW: Freya

Hi Freya, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi Vents I’m great just got back from holiday in Iceland and am back to writing.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Blame”?

‘Blame’ is about recognising that you attract people’s behavior toward you. My first line ‘Everything I hate about you I am’ is not necessarily that you may have the same negative qualities as the other person but that if you tolerate them for a long time it must say something about you.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I had just come out of a bad situation where I was angry but I knew that essentially I had allowed myself to be in it, and had been getting an emotional pay off from being in the situation in some shape or form. Being honest with yourself is hard but I believe that your life is a reflection of your own thoughts and views on the world.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

No we ll see I’m getting on with other projects, and more writing.

How was the recording and writing process?

I worked with producer Yoad Nevo (Sia, Pet Shop Boys, Goldfrapp, Sugababes, Air, Morcheeba) on this track and it was one of those songs that flowed and was done within hours because the sentiment was so real for me at the time.

What role does London plays in your writing?

I am a true Londoner and obsessed with my city! If you grow up in London you are surrounded by so many different influences – friends, music, food etc from all different backgrounds.  So musically all the influences seep in whether you realize it or not. Pop, Rnb, latin, dancehall, bhangra  – its all London.

How has 90s garage music influence your current sound?

Well I love the vocal melodies and the bass lines in garage. Im either into totally fun or totally moody sounds.

How’s your new album coming along?

I’m working on a few things projects at the moment so after that I will release an EP.

What else is happening next in Freya’s world?

I’ve teamed up with a producer to form a group called laya laya and we have planned releases in 2017.

I am also vocaling an EP with a group signed to a dance music independent and this will also be out in 2017.
