Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey there, I’ve been really great thanks! Enjoying the sunshine! How about you?

For those who aren’t familiar with you or your sound yet, how would you describe it?

It’s electro pop with a cinematic feel to it. Floaty vocals, heavy beats and powerful stories.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Gave Away”?

Gave Away is one of the harder hitting tracks on the EP. It’s got a heavy baseline and a beat that makes your head nod.

How did the single name come about?

The line is: “you gave away all of your love”. I figured that was probably too long for the title!! But in all seriousness the track is all about self love and how we can give away so much but often forget to take some for ourselves.

Did any event/s in particular inspire you to write the material?

All the tracks I have written for this EP and the former EP Conscious are derived from true stories. I have sat with each subject and heard their story first hand. This is the story of a young girl battling with low self worth and heading down a path of sex and drugs. Many of us had tried to ‘save her’ but no amount of us telling her she was worthy of happiness and love could change her path. It had to come from within. She fell in love and fell pregnant and it totally turned her life around, motherhood gave her a purpose. In her words “she wanted to be someone her son could be proud of”. Her unborn child gave her self worth and saved her life in a way no one else could.

How was the recording and writing process?

For this song in particular it was a little meticulous. We had the body of the track, Dan Goudie my producer had come up with a serious beat but as the track came together as a whole it didn’t make my head nod. We went over and over the best, changing a snare, changing the kick drum, trying different sounds, considering live drums, changing the synth sound… we basically didn’t stop until we got the head nod back! It makes me smile every time I perform it and people in the audience nod their heads, move their bodies and dance!

How different is this new single from your previous material?

I think they all have a running theme that brings them together but this track definitely stands out as being the heaviest of them all. It’s what we close the show with and it’s always the one that gets people moving. It has a much rockier feel to it and a much grittier tone with the vocal effects in the chorus.

You’re about to go on tour in the UK – where are you looking forward to playing and why?

Aw that’s a tough one! I am super excited to play at several of the Pride events; It means a lot to me to support the LBGT community. I also can’t wait to play Standon Calling. I have attended the festival before as a punter and I loved it so to perform there will be epic!

Why should people pay attention to you? What’s special about you?

We are all special in our own way! I guess what I pride myself on is helping others. I am always trying to help others in all I do and music is just another way for me to do that. I care about the messages I put out with my music, I write songs that I hope will help people overcome their fears and understand that they are not alone. People should pay attention to me if my songs resonate with them. Music is a preference, there is no right or wrong. If it makes sense to them and speaks their language then they will pay attention.

What else is happening next in Sian Cross’ world?

Well mainly the live dates. We have several for you to chose from over the summer! But in the background of all of that I am currently working on some new material and also getting the video ready for my next single.
