Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Marked and Scarred”?
-This song is dedicated to anyone who endure events that left them emotionally “Marked and Scarred”. This song specifically speaks to love loss. It is available to download on iTunes, AppleMusic, Amazon, and Cd BaBy. It can also be streamed on Spotify, Youtube and SoundCloud.
Did any event, in particular, inspire you to write this song?
-The song was inspired by the death of my grandmother who played a significant role in life both musically and spiritually. She died a semester before I graduated from college due to lungs issues.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
– I do hope to release a video in the fall.
How was the recording and writing process?
-It went very smoothly like this song was destined to be recorded. I had a great team with John Ho (producer) and Jimmy Burney (songwriter/vocal producer) who really helped my vision become a reality in a short matter of time.
Does your PhD and Chemistry knowledge influence your music in any way or they are two different facets for you?
-My PhD in chemistry makes me think very analytically where I breakdown the project into components and develop the right formula to get to the desired product. I take this mindset with my music to get the desired sound/story that I am looking for.
Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
– Yes, I plan to release an EP early Fall of this year. I have some issues balancing my full-time job as a chemist and the different producer’s schedules, but I have faith it will all work out. I have songs made, but I want to make sure they speak to who I am before releasing.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
– I don’t have a set release date, but a possible title maybe “Philosopher’s Dialect” where the EP is based of my life lessons and experiences while becoming a philosopher of chemistry. My mom always say I should write a book about the things I went through to get to where I am today, but I see this EP as my book.
Any plans to hit the road?
-No solid plans are set yet, but I do have that in mind to put on my calendar. I am focusing on finishing the songs first then I have more free-time to hit the road. My schedule is a little bit different from a typical artist (chemist, professor, entrepreneur), but I accept the challenge.
What else is happening next in Kelvin Frazier, Ph.D.’s world?
I hope to be touring by early/late Winter if all goes well.
