Son of 8 and 8 House Records take a nostalgic trip back to March, as they revisit their ‘Tech Vibes EP’ for part 2. After smashing Beatport and Traxsource charts, as well gaining plays on Kiss FM, ‘Good Times’ and ‘Your Love’ both enjoyed long spells under the spotlight, and now they’re back again with a fresh and reworked sound. After just putting out their 10th release, 8 House celebrate 6 months of working alongside some of house music’s most prestigious names: Charlie Hedges, Tuff London and up and coming Kobenamongst others. They’re often receiving heavy support from the likes of Marco Carola and Oliver Heldens, and now with the crux of their sound well and truly cemented, who knows what lies ahead.
As well as enjoying success with their label, owners Son of 8 have recently put out music on Freakin 909, and are filling out their record collection nicely for the big upcoming shows at Blackpool’s Pier Jam and their home-coming at Creamfields.
‘Good Times Pt 2,’ which features Chic’s infamous sample, will have you fist pumping in no time. A down-right dirty, hands-in-the-air house record that’s filled to the brim energy. With a big build up in the middle, the drop has an impact of devastating proportions. Chunky drums, sharp percussive stabs and a booming bassline fill out the gaps perfectly – big summer sounds coming from the Son of 8 camp. On producing ‘Good Times’ they added:
“Off the back of the first mix we wanted something with a little more bite for the clubs. We looped certain sections of the vocal and pitched it down to give more of an Underground feel. We didn’t at first want the vocal in as we thought a more dubbed version would work better, but when we heard it over the new track layout we knew it needed to stay in as it worked a treat.”
Building on ‘Your Love Pt 1’s already massive bassline, Part 2 somehow manages to top it. Rolling for days on end, the funk in this one is certain to get dancefloors moving. Littered with sample flashes and a tribal breakdown, this could be played at either an Ibizan beach party or a dingy underground warehouse and it would slot in nicely at both. On creating the track, Son of 8said:
“Again, like ‘Good Times’, we wanted something chunkier for the club, although on this we knew we needed to strip the vocal back a lot more than the original. We still used it in the break but tried to use some different loops that we had chopped out of the vocal to drive the track along. The main hook with the bell sound needed to stay as it was in original – regardless of the style of the track, that hook could stand on its own anywhere.”
The suitably titled ‘Tech Vibes Part 2’ EP takes its original tracks to a whole new level. Bigger, bolder and with even more bass, 8 House and Son of 8excel themselves yet again, Summer is officially here.
