INTERVIEW: Gianni Marino

Hi Gianni, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey Hey! I’m great been buried away in the studio so nice to be seeing some sunlight haha

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Make You”?

Well I worked on it with Alex Burnett who wrote “DJ Snake” Talk, and various other really amazing songs. It’s got my standard blend of oriental sounds which you can hear underneath but it’s a much more laidback song than my heavier club records. Luna May’s voice is amazing and super glad to have her on the record.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Not in particular, I wrote the track to the original vocal recording and build it from there!

Any plans to release a video for the single?

We have a cool little lyric video on the way! But havnt seen it just yet, if the song really takes off I’m sure we’ll look at doing a full music video though!

What was it like to work with Luna May and what did she brought up to the table?

Luna May has a really amazing vocal range, and we have the same manager so that’s hwo it came about. I’ve heard a lot of her solo music which is coming up and I know she’s gonna be big. Keep an eye out for her!

How was the recording and writing process?

We tried to keep it fresh and clean but still keep some of the slight imperfections that make it unique.

Does your approach tends to change depending on the label where you are releasing your music or if you are collaborating with someone else?

I don’t really create music with the label in mind, I make music to what feels right at the moment. Some producers have a one sound but I am pretty varied. I’ll make a Bass song one day, a disco vibe another day and pop song another. I also produce for a few hip hop acts too.

How has your Asian background influence your music?

I’m half Indonesia although I was born and grew up all my life in Holland. I defiently have been influenced by the culture and have spent a lot of time immersing myself in it. A lot of my music is centred around India, Indonesian or arabic and tribal sounds.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?

I probably have more than enough songs for an album but I feel I want to create songs with an album in mind to make a cohesive collection for the listener rather than throw a heap of different songs together and call it an album.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes, I have got some exciting shows and a tour being locked in at the moment. We’ve just confirmed a couple of festivals which I’ll be able to announce shortly!

What else is happening next in Gianni Marino’s world?

A lot of new music, some big remixes and a few new collaborations! Keep an eye out, but for now lets focus on Make You! J
