INTERVIEW: Lost Stars
Hi Damian, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
I’m great! We just wrapped up the final adjustments in the studio for our new single!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “It Only Takes One”?
“It Only Takes One” is a self reflection that dives into the great moral and ethical tragedies of our world today. The song isn’t about pointing fingers and blaming others for the messy world we live in. Rather, it asks, “What have I done to make the world a better place? What have I done to hurt others? Can I live with the hurtful things I’ve done to others? Can I become a better person? Can I make a difference?” The best thing you can do to make the world a better place is actively choose to improve yourself, respond with love instead of hate, and inspire others around you by being kind and believing in the goodness of others.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
I can’t say that one event inspired the song. This song was inspired by the culmination of many events we’ve seen throughout our lifetime. But, I felt that now was a good time to write a song about how much hurt there is in the world. I feel like we are at a major crossroads and we have a lot of moral and ethical issues we have to tackle as a human race as this new century unfolds. I also feel like I’m old enough to understand how much hurt there really is. And, I have grown enough to be able to look in the mirror and ask myself “how do my actions affect the world around me.” This song holds me accountable.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
It is still in early development, but we plan on releasing a music video for our new single in early autumn.
How was the recording and writing process?
I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with songwriting and recording. I want every tiny detail to be perfect. And because the message we wanted to convey was so important, we spent a lot of extra time working on the lyrics and arrangement when Charley, Trey, and I were writing this song. There have been several different versions of this song throughout the recording process. It took a long time, but we think we’re all happy with how the single came together.
What role does Nashville play in your writing?
Living in Nashville has changed my songwriting forever. The people of this city truly celebrate the craft behind songwriting both in pop and country music. I’ve been influenced by many incredible writers that I’ve crossed paths with since moving here, and it has inspired me to have greater dedication to meaningful lyrics and powerful melodies.
After the success from your previous record, were you nervous while working on this newest single?
I am always nervous to release new music. But if I let doubt get the better of me, I would never release anything. The support of my friends, family, and fans keep me going!
Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
It’s too soon to say. There’s a possibility of us going into the studio again in the fall. I don’t want to give too much away. Only time will tell…
What other aspects of individuality would you be diving into on a potential new record?
Lost Stars has always been about making honest music that reflect all aspects of life. All of our songs are inspired by real life events. With each passing day there are new experiences to be influenced by. Whatever we release will be a reflection of current events in our worlds.
Any plans to hit the road?
We just finished our Spring Tour, which was incredible! We plan to start touring again in the fall and will be announcing new dates soon.
What else is happening next in Lost Stars’ world?
We have a big release show for “It Only Takes One” coming up soon. You can hear the new single live at The Back Corner in Nashville on September 7th!
