Kellen- We’ve been great. It’s hard to beat Summer in Santa Cruz.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “You Ain’t Got The Heart”?
Kellen- This is the first single off our upcoming LP “Roll With It.” It’s certainly one of the more rockin’ tunes on the album but I think it’s a good representation of the sound of this album.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Kellen- Not really. I had the first verse and chorus written pretty quickly. It’s got a good hook in the chorus, loud guitars and drums, a screaming organ. It’s a lot of fun to play live.
How was the film experience?
Kellen- Freezing. The weather is probably the most memorable part of shooting that video. We shot the video over the course of one day on a paintball course in Hollister, California in late December. Aside from the weather it was a lot of fun. The warrior girls were awesome team players and really made the video work. We eventually let them shoot the five of us with paintballs at the end of the day. They seemed to enjoy that a whole lot.
How was the recording and writing process?
Kellen- We had an arrangement for the song for quite some time before we went to record it. Our producer, Andy Zenczak, helped change the arrangement for the studio so by the time we recorded the song felt pretty fresh again.
How has Neil Young have influence your writing?
Kellen- We love Neil Young. We all went and saw him last year at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. He’s been an influence on us for years.
How’s your new album coming along?
– We’re really pleased with the new album. I think we really got great results on all fronts; songs, recordings, and performances. We’ll be releasing our second single from the album in a couple weeks.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Kellen- I’m hoping for late Summer or early Fall. We’ll be releasing a few more singles and videos so it’s hard to say exactly when the whole album will be out.
What else is happening next in The Coffis Brothers & The Mountain Men’s world?
Kellen- Mostly focused on touring. Playing shows around California and out to Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado. Beyond that we’re just trying to get people to hear this new album.
