INTERVIEW: Diives

Hi D, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi, yes I’ve been great thanks, thanks for having me.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Anxiety”?

Yes, well there’s so much going on with the track at the moment, we’re getting so much great feedback about it already and it’s not released until 18th August so I’m so happy with these early impressions.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Well I’ve suffered a lot with Anxiety in the past & I suppose it was just what I was going through at the time. I’ve always thought that people should speak up about these things but then realised that I wasn’t doing so myself. So I thought just try to write down exactly what was going on and it did help to get all that off my chest.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes, the video will be out soon. It shows quick flashes of the lyrics over what looks like scenes from a horror film. A friend of mine produced the video and we shot it in the woods. It has quite an uneasy feeling to it, which is just what I wanted because it fits so well with the theme of the song.

How was the recording and writing process?

I was actually talking to a friend about how I had this idea for a song about Anxiety, I was telling him that I’d been bouncing around ideas for a couple of days but nothing had come to light, whilst I was doing this I was just hitting random keys on the keyboard and then I hit those first three notes that you hear in the song. I quickly recorded it on my phone and the whole song was just built around that really. The lyrics came pretty easy once I had that initial bass line.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?

Yes we are in the process of finishing off the album, it’s really taking shape and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

We know the release date and have a few titles in mind, but I can’t reveal much more at this point.

Will you keep diving into anxiety on this new record?

I think the theme is there, yes. Some of the songs have come from dark places but in a positive way. There are a few dark tracks on there but they show that there is light at the end of the tunnel and they put a spin on hard times.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes, the live plans are taking shape. I can’t wait to translate these songs to an audience. We have so much going on musically, that it’s going to be great to hear them live. The focus has been so much on the recording side lately, so playing them live is going to be exciting.

What else is happening next in Diives’s world?

You’ll see a lot of new releases before the year is out, so it’s all go. I just don’t want to take my foot off the pedal now I’ve started. I’ll keep you posted on everything.

Thanks so much for having me!
