Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Tonight”?
‘Tonight’ was recorded with our fantastic producer Gavin Monaghan, we were able to push the track to its full potential with Gavin and we are so happy with how it has turned out. It brings across the Rock side of our music whilst maintaining a Pop element to it, meaning the song has a uniqueness but still has mainstream values which allows it to become relatable to anyone who listens. You can find it on our Spotify, iTunes and Soundcloud we hope you enjoy.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
The song is about the troubles of a relationship break-up which I think most people will have experienced, we wrote mainly about the difficulties of moving on after a break-up and the possibility of compromise when it comes to this. It’s something we have all experienced ourselves and it felt a natural subject to write about to make the song as relatable and accessible as possible for all.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
We have recorded quite a bit of footage for the track and are currently going through and editing all of the footage to hopefully put something together and release towards the end of July.
How was the recording and writing process?
We always love going to the studio, there we have the time to come up with different ideas and experiment with different sounds to bring the best out of the song. You can definitely hear an adventurous sound in ’Tonight’ with influence and inspiration from a variety of genres. The writing process was worked over a few weeks, Tom (Front man and Guitarist) originally wrote the song and melody, however wasn’t happy with the Chorus. He played the song to Angus (Drums) when they were driving to a gig and both wrote the Chorus lyrics in the car, combing both our ideas and experiences.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
An album is a long way off for us at the moment, however you can be sure to expect many more releases including an E.P at some point as well. We want to ensure we have found and followed a distinct and unique sound before committing to recording an album, and as I said before we are still experimenting with lots of different sounds whenever we are in the studio or in rehearsal.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
We are aiming to have our E.P recorded and released by the end of this year, it will include a few of our most favourite and favoured tracks with the title track being our set finisher. You’ll have to come and see us live to get an exclusive listen to it before release.
Any plans to hit the road?
We have just finished our first tour of seven venues, helping promote our new single, and we have enjoyed every second of it. We will have more news soon but we’ll be doing a bigger tour next year around February/March time so keep a look out for this.
What else is happening next in The Tangents’ world?
Well we’re taking a bit of time to record the new E.P and also write and learn a lot of new songs to improve on our live set. We are headlining The Bodega on the 21stof July which should be a great show. We’re also planning a big end of year show/party again at The Bodega in December to celebrate the year, our new E.P and of course Christmas, keep an eye out for more announcements of this as well.
