INTERVIEW: Desmond John

Hi Desmond, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Great thanks!

From all the songs out there, why did you cover Shawn Mendes’ “Treat You Better”?

I really loved the lyrical content and thought it was a great record, so I decided to put my own little spin on it 🙂

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

My management and team really liked the record too, so I got help with the initial guitar riff and them just built it up from three. I did it all out of the small studio I’ve built n my room. It was a really enjoyable process, as I love being creative and adding my own feel to a song.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are covering someone else than when you are writing your own original material?

Not really; I always try to keep it as authentically me as possible, and I only cover songs that I feel I relate to on a personal level.

How has Germany influence your writing?

I feel like it’s given me the ability to write from a more globalised perspective.

Can we expect any time soon an original album?

I can’t give out too many details, but we’re planning on releasing a project towards the end of the year. Keep your eyes pealed…

Any plans to hit the road?

Not yet, we’re just piecing everything else together before we plan any tour dates.

What else is happening next in Desmond John’s world?

For now I’m really focusing on building up on my online presence an we have more covers being released this Summer. I’m also currently recording original material for my upcoming project 🙂 I’m really excited for what the future holds!
