Following her recent run of UK shows, Finnish pop powerhouse ALMA has released a stunning remix of her latest single, Chasing Highs. The rework by, Greco-Roman records alumni, Roosevelt takes the original’s all guns blazing pop and turns it into a subtle slab of indie disco. Listen here.
The 21-year-old Finnish powerhouse (currently working with MNEK, Rudimental, Charlie XCX, Sub Focus and 2 Inch Punch) needn’t worry about clichés: with her long, electric-neon hair, baggy punk attire and ‘zeros fucks’ magnetic attitude she is everything but the stereotypical pop princess. “She looks like a cybergoth reimagining of a young Adele and sounds like Beth Ditto had she been raised on tropical house,” The Observer wrote recently – they hit the nail on the head.
Chasing Highs, which was premiered on Radio 1 by Mistajam as his ‘Hottest Record’. It has already notched up over 33 million global streams and is climbed up the airplay and Spotify charts around Europe. It followed the release of Alma’s debut EP, Dye My Hair.
Since the release of Dye My Hair, ALMA has notched up over 100 million combined Spotify plays, with the title track of the EP scoring a no. 1 on iTunes in ALMA’s home country, a top 10 in Germany’s singles chart and extensive support from Radio 1 (including a recentplaylist addition) in the UK.
ALMA has been championed by everyone from Annie Mac and Mistajam through Interviewmagazine, The Line Of Best Fit and i-D to Elton John. She’s supported fellow maverick Scandinavian MØ on tour, and performed alongside Jorja Smith, Nadia Rose and The Amazons at the Radio 1 Future Festival. February saw her win two out of the five awards she was nominated for at the EMMAs (Finland’s answer to The Grammys).
ALMA recently joined Ray BLK on the bill for theAnnie Mac curated AMP Collected night at the Jazz Café. An extensive run of headline dates and festival appearances across the UK and Europe follows this Spring. See below for more dates.
