Thank you! It’s been a lot of work, but when you get there, you know, release-week is always crazy and you inflict yourself with a lot of self-induced-stress but it wouldn’t be as fun if you didn’t.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “The Rescue”?
Musically, the track was super-inspired by watching the first season of Stranger Things and that phenomenal (!) soundtrack by SURVIVE. The lyrics came out of reading a report that laid out how much physical restraint was being used in a local mental health facility, and I actually have a friend of mine that works there and he could lay it all out for me (in just general terms, of course). And so that inspired me to write something about being really mental in these mental times.
Any plans to release a music video for the single?
Not at the moment, as I’m keeping myself busy working on new and a bit more up-tempo material.
How was the recording and writing process?
In general: Lonely. I work alone in the studio, but I’d have other producers that work in the same building drop by and give some informal feedback, and then I usually don’t give a shit what they say. But it’s nice to have someone to talk to, you know. I also show sketches to my girlfriend and she’d give me some brutally honest feedback and I will be a bit angry with her the rest of the day, but next day it usually turns out she was right.
What role does Norway plays in your writing?
I know some people get inspired by nature and stuff like that but I tend to find my “inspiration” or whatever from the people that I live with, everyday life and tv series. So the fact that I live in Tromsø and that all the mountains are covered in snow even though it’s the end of June, I guess it affects me in some way but maybe you have to observe me from outside to see that because I can’t.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
You might! For now I feel like keep doing singles.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Might be a new track in september.
What aspect of darkness would you be exploring on this record?
My own. Personal. Darkness. See what I did there?
Any plans to hit the road?
No plan but I would like to make one.
What else is happening next in Mørk’s world?
We got a cat! His name is Albert, and you can hear all about it in my next track which I’m working on right now.
