After premiering to a full house on the same stage played by Lady Gaga, Jessie J, and Mumford & Sons at the iconic Rockwood Music Hall in New York, today Australian indie soul/R&B artist Elsie and The Vibe drops her track “Naked”.
Live in Limbo premiered “Naked” and described the tune as “raw, stripped back and deeply intimate”. Take a listen here!
Since the release of Elsie and The Vibe’s debut single, Riverside, in November 2016, the singer-songwriter has received international attention, receiving positive reviews and spins on college radio and Australian Radio National.
Elsie and The Vibe have developed a strong US following, touring the East Coast earlier this year via playing a number of indie US music festivals including Launch Music Conference and Festival (PA), Earth Day Festival (NY) and the Jersey Shore Festival (NJ). Elsie has also performed at a number of iconic New York music venues including Pianos, The Bowery Electric, Fat Baby and Silvana as well as headlining Rockwood Music Hall for the release of “Naked”.
Produced by Robert Upward (Emaar, Shelley Segal), “Naked” is reminiscent of Alicia Keys and Emeli Sande.
In contrast to Elsie and The Vibe’s earlier releases (Riverside, Just Don’t), Elsie has shed the vintage brass, Motown rhythm and fiery keys to reveal vulnerable vocals, delicate piano and a string quartet. Elsie’s fragile story telling swells to an uplifting final chorus, her vocals soaring over the strings and piano that have morphed into an army of resilience.
Elsie explains that the process of writing Naked allowed her to “discover the strength that underlies vulnerability” and she “used this sense of empowerment as an anchor to overcome her own insecurities around exposing her truth through music”.
Naked comes from the upcoming self-titled debut EP, which is due out August 18 2017 with a supporting launch show in Melbourne at the end of August.
