INTERVIEW: We Are The Catalyst

Answered by Cat

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

-Hey! We are just fine, thanks! And today we are really excited since our new music video for “One More Day” is about to drop!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “One More Day”?

-It is one of the most popular songs from our latest album “Elevation”, and I can really understand why the fans like it!

“One More Day” has this perfect mix of pop melodies and a heavy rock sound, with emotional lyrics that are easy to relate to.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

-Like most of our songs it was not written based on one particular event, but based on highlighting a particular feeling or concept, in this case the closeness between love, loss and sorrow.

How was the film experience?

-Stressful, haha! On the first day of filming (at the beach in Varberg, Sweden) it was cold and windy as hell even though the sun was shining!

My fingers hurt like crazy because of the cold, my nose was running, and my hair kept blowing in my face all the time, plus at the beginning of the shooting our (mine and Kennys) baby girl wouldn’t stop crying and refused to go to sleep in her pram.

We also tried to use some coloured smoke at the beach, but it all just blew in my face and made my eyes cry! Haha!

After the filming at the beach we went to shoot some scenes in a forest, thankfully!! It was less windy and much warmer, and our baby was much happier! Plus, it was easier to use the coloured smoke!
Haha, the things you do for art! 😀

The single comes off your new album Elevation – what’s the story behind the title?

-With “Elevation”, the follow up to our debut album “Monuments”, we wanted to create an album that was just “much more” in every aspect.

We wanted the heavy to be much heavier, the darkness to be much darker, and the pop elements to be even more catchy, we wanted our sound to be elevated as to speak!
I hope and believe that the fans felt that we succeeded with that!

How was the recording and writing process?

As with “Monuments”, the process starts with Kenny writing the basic idea of the songs, doing drums, guitar, bass and fx.

Then I try out some melodies and we work on those melodies and make lyrics together. Some songs stay more or less like the first idea we tried, while some songs sound almost nothing like the first demo of the song. And that’s the best part of it, you’ll never know what the finished product will sound like until you get there!

What made you guys want to seek for a much darker sound?

-Like I said before we wanted “Elevation” to be more of everything, including a darker sound.
And I think that both me and Kenny are naturally more drawn to the darker sounds, so it comes quite easy to us.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

-In life itself, in all the emotions and feelings you meet everyday, and in trying to understand the world and us humans. Our acts and behaviours. In the disappointment, I feel with the acts of humans, but also in the strength and love we inhabit.

Any plans to hit the road?

-Yes! We are planning on tour later this year or the beginning of next. Nothing is official yet though!

What else is happening next in We Are The Catalyst’s world?

-We always make new music, of course! So, we are currently working on our next album, which will be released sometime next year!

And with that comes more music videos. So, keep your eyes and ears open for that!
