Sonia Stein has just dropped Kiwi’s deep disco remix of new single “Lotta U.” It’s the latest track taken from her upcoming debut EP – produced by Liam Howe (FKA Twigs, Adele, Jessie Ware) and released via Marathon Artists. Listen here
London based DJ, producer and disco-wonder kid, Kiwi, is protege to the legendary Andrew Weatherall. Previous releases via Duke Dumont’s Blasé Boy’s Club, Friendly Fire’s Deep Shit, Optimo‘s eponymous imprint and the dance tastemakers Futureboogie, have seen the former XOYO resident grace the decks from London to Ibiza and as far east as China, with his epic disco remix of “Lotta U” being well received on dance-floors all over the world.
Stein unveiled a video for the original version of the song this April. Watch below. All finger click beats, intricate lyrics and bubbling electronics, “Lotta U” is the follow up single to the sultry RnB release, “One Of Those Things,” which currently stands at over 700,000 views on YouTube and made an appearance on key influencer Spotify playlists such as Pop Justice and Disco Naiveté.
Stein describes “Lotta U” as “a song that describes the beginning of something new, it has a nervousness and self-awareness about it, that pre-emptive worry that if things keep going the way they’re going the scales will tip and I’ll be left wanting more than I am getting. In the video, I play a sort of modern day Cupid. When the relationship gets a little too hot and cold for me, I take matters into my own hands and start hunting him down with my bow and arrow 😉“
Despite a restless upbringing of traversing across continents (Berlin, Poland, and America to name but a few), the music Sonia Stein creates is beautifully anchored. Quietly determined she creates the sort of songs that are full of drama and emotional complexities.
