INTERVIEW: Betty Bauer

Hi Betty, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey—– thank you, I am great! Have been working and travelling a lot lately, but well… that’s what I always do and what I love most… so yeah… great!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Meatfactory”?

Ever since I left my life (as a freelance artist) in Ibiza, Spain, I got confronted with difficulties that are day- to day reality… not only in the entertainment, and especially film the business, but also generally spoken in modern western society; Bullying, envy, oppression of women, youthism, bad wages, inequality, and conformity just to mention a few. Lost in this new world – I initially tried to fit in and to please, but I never really felt comfortable in this role of being weak and well adapted. Until one day I reached a point where I decided that “enough is enough”. I found back to my strength and individuality and initiated Meatfactory.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

No, it was a summary of occurrences and observations in the Industry and in society, as a whole, that lead me to this. At some point in my life, I decided to do something about how I felt and started to write “Meatfactory” – in order to find an outlet for my emotions and help to empower Individuals from all over the world… to stand up for who they really are.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes, of course! We shot a badass video here in Atlanta, GA with the incredibly talented Director Jesse Scott Bryan, and it will be released in the next weeks. Watch out on my social media to see it first… it’s really great and transports the Meatfactory message a 100%!!

How was the recording and writing process?

The recording was truly amazing. I recorded my song at Sonic Vista Studios in Ibiza with my producer Henry Sarmiento and we really clicked artistically. I was so inspired. This is what I love about being an artist. When you just click with other artists and create something bigger than you could do by yourself. I never wanted to get out of that studio. The energy was so intense. That night I couldn’t sleep, as I was so energized by the recording session. After a few days, I went again to the studio to work on some adlibs. It was an overall extremely inspiring experience and I wanna keep on working with Henry.

My writing process was long. I had to go through several versions and even wrote in different languages in order to really nail down my message. I wrote night and day. The only thing I could think about was Meatfactory. It was intense and extreme. But, I am very happy with the outcome. I think the Lyrics really couldn´t be any better.

How does acting influence your music and the other way around?

Well of course, the more art forms you dominate, the more it helps your expression. Apart from that “Meatfactory” was inspired by my experiences as an actress, the years of acting training helped me a lot for my music. I had 5 years of voice training, singing classes, and body training. Also, breathing plays a big role in acting. As a good actor – you gotta be musical as acting is all about Rhythm. You have to have a good ear. Especially if you work in theater… all this applies. Acting also helps to take different characters and of course helps incredibly for the stage performance and presence. My training also helped me to persevere and bring projects to fruition.

So these things work both ways and music influences my acting and acting my music big time.

Known for blending different genres – do you try to balance them together?

I am actually not consciously blending different genres. It’s just what happened, and keeps on happening, when I try to do realize my ideas. What I do is always very unique and hard to put in a box. People call it blending of genres – as they still wanna label it, in order to compare it and judge it. I would say I am just doing what I want and create a “Betty Bauer” genre with that. lol

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Oh Yeah!!!! I am already working on my second and third song(s) and I assure you that they will be mind-blowing. Great lyrics, great beats, and good content… I can’t wait… so exciting to create!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Definitely this year. I am aiming for latest – autumn, but I prefer not to promise anything until I have the finished product in my hands. Title… well yeah, I know the titles, but can’t say anything yet… However, yeah, it will be very provocative… that’s for sure!

Any plans to hit the road?

Yeah, definitely in 2018, need to bring out my other songs, first. I will let you guys know.

What else is happening next in Betty Bauer’s world?

Betty Bauers world is flamboyant!!!! ;-)))

Planning a feature film, working on a book, and on my next songs. So yeah… a lot is happening… and- of course- I will travel a lot the next few months. US, Germany, Austria, France and Spain are planned till August.
