CHAZ FRENCH Announces Debut Studio Album + Releases “Pops” Ahead of Father’s Day!

Chaz French, newest signee of ThreeSixEight/Motown/Capitol Records and rising D.C. rapper, is excited to announce the release of his debut studio album, True Colors, out July 14th, 2017. The blockbuster 17-track album showcases Chaz’s natural rap talent and affinity for smart word play and cutting bars. “This album feels like a ride though my city, at the same time taking a journey through my experiences and emotions up to this point in my young rap career. DC hasn’t had many chances to have our voice heard on a large platform up until this point in hip hop. When ThreeSixEight got my deal at Motown, that meant DC got a deal too. This isn’t just about me, it’s about the city and the world hearing our voice. No matter if we come from the same walk of life, if you’re from DC I want you to feel like you were a part of making this album because life in this city was, and will always be my inspiration.” — Chaz French

To celebrate the announcement, Chaz has premiered the second single off his new album, “Pops,” just in time for Father’s Day this weekend. The poignant track, which premiered via Complex, spotlights issues of mass incarceration and Chaz’s own relationship with a father who was in and out of prison. “Mass incarceration and the drug abuse that happened during this time left many households without fathers. I couldn’t fully understand why my Dad wasn’t around growing up for extended periods of time, but now I get it and I forgive,” said Chaz.

I’m super excited to represent the DMV. It’s not just about me, it’s about all of us” said Chaz about his upcoming album, when he premiered the first taste off True Colors, “Way Out,” via BillboardLISTEN HERE. This sentiment is the exact driving force behind his debut project, the songs highlight the lives, trials, and celebration of growing up in one of the country’s most divisive communities – as a young black man and father. Songs like “Amerikka” and “Young World” (featuring a soliloquy from political activist Tony Lewis Jr.) feature political undertones cut with firey bars, while tracks like “Start It Up,” and “So Are We” (featuring fellow DC rapper Innanet James and Phil Ade) offer how Chaz and his peers continue to reconcile their upbringing and, at times, unfair environment. Not always so serious, Chaz switches to his cheekier disposition with songs like “Uncle Luke” and the softer, dreamier track “Situations,” balancing out the project. The album features a slew of Chaz’s rapper and artist friends including Cassey Veggies, Curren$y, BJ The Chicago Kid and more. True Colors is Chaz’s most honest and rawest project to date, a strong body of work destined to cement him with ‘legendary status’ and as an artist leading the charge of D.C’s hip hop renaissance.
