I’ve been good, working through this deployment and handling the album release is chaotic but not impossible ya know.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “The Deployment Song”?
The Deployment Song is my way of helping a soldier/sailor/someone say goodbye, but it’s also a personal euology. It was my way of getting my heart in the air before leaving, in case we don’t came back.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Prior to deployment I was having various conversations with close friends/ fellow shipmates of mine. It’s really heartbreaking to hear what this lifestyle does to people’s relationships, I guess it just gave me a strong burden for it.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
I’d love to do a video, I’m really interested in doing like an animation style of film, at this point I’m just waiting on a cinematographer/director crazy enough to get on board with me haha.
How was the recording and writing process?
I wrote most of these songs on the ocean, recorded all 10 tracks in the 11 days I was on leave in May. We’re currently in post-production, it’s really stressful dealing with the boats systematics and still trying to maintain communication to get the record produced but with God all things are possible, I know this is the story we’re meant to tell and I know it’ll get done. Special thanks to one of my best friends and producer Ben Bandz for making this dream come to life.
Any plans to hit the road?
I’d love to tour with this album,I always thought it would be cool to go to different ships and give the people this music. But that’s the Navy’s choice not mine haha.
What else is happening next in Emay Holmes’ world?
Well, I’m currently working on my first official poetry book, just finished writing an EP, and the second album is gonna develop itself throughout deployment.
