Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Lockdown”?
Lockdown is a song inspired by the small town syndrome and wanting to aspire to do more than the usual. It’s also a song about getting caught in the trap of addiction/frustration and boredom.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Just growing up really in a valleys town with not a great deal to do.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
We released a video for our single Lockdown a few weeks ago, we will also be releasing a video for another track on our EP soon, stay tuned!
Why naming the album after this track in particular?
. We named the EP Lockdown because it basically captures our lives at the moment, being stuck in a town you’ve grown up in for years and wanting more. But it also captures us as a band too as we keep striving for MORE.
How was the recording and writing process?
. It was pretty easy, it usually is. One of us will write something tasty then we’ll take it to rehearsals and expand.
What role does South Wales plays on your writing?
I think with growing up in a small town as appose to living in a city, you get a stronger sense of passion and drive to get out of there and get into more. If you’re born in the city your halfway there. So there’s the neediness to explore the world and do more than what’s normal in this life with ‘Lockdown’.
What aspect of real life struggles did you get to explore on this record?
‘She Knows’ is a dig at the whole Tory party, from Thatcher to Theresa and everyone in between, shutting the valleys down since the 80s and selling vital needs to posh friends… she’s in the know, she’s in the know, and we know!! The final track ‘Cold’ is a song about the bands plans to hopefully secure a record deal, and bouncing from job to job to try and make it happen.
Any plans to hit the road? What else is happening next in Chapel Row’s world?
We have a few small festivals coming up throughout the year and a few headline shows, our next being The Summer Vibes Festival in our hometown on the 26th June. Expect more gigs, some funky Merchandise, and a tour.
