Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
C – Hey! We’ve been great – playing shows and releasing songs. It’s been a busy few weeks!
For those who aren’t familiar with you or your sound yet, how would you describe it?
C – Lots of bass riffs, big guitars and the sparkliest synths we can find.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “All In”?
R- All In is the first single from an EP called “Nature Will Eat Me” coming later this year.
How did the single name come about?
R – The name came before any other lyrics, it’s about having the guts to make a big change in your life and stop being so comfortable.
Did any event/s in particular inspire you to write the material?
C – A lot of the lyrics are heralding back to times we’ve had to make these big decisions about life, career, love and all the emotions and fear that goes with it. So it’s a jumble of a lot of different events, but all the same feeling of being brave enough to ignore the voices of doubt and take a big jump in.
How was the recording and writing process?
R – The two often happen in tandem for us, we can’t really help it. It just feels natural to begin building the recording, moving things around, jumping between instruments. I get really excited about that. I do remember the chorus took us a long time. I’m really pleased with how it’s turned out.
How different is this new single from your previous material?
C – I guess it has a little bit more sass! When this song was written, it felt like a big step forward in our sound. We’re really proud of this one and I think this more electronic sound with a bit more lyrical bite is what we want to keep exploring with our new songs. It feels like we’ve settled on a sound we’re really happy with. We’re only a year old so I guess you could say we were still finding our feet with the other singles, even though we still love them!
You recently played The Great Escape – how was it??
C – It was a marathon! That was our first show outside of Ireland, so the whole trip over, playing in a new city, as part of this cool festival, it was a bit of an emotional overload! But a fun one. We had a great time!
Why should people pay attention to Beauty Sleep? What’s special about you?
C – We love dogs and we sell homemade bath bombs at the merch table.
What else is happening next in Beauty Sleep’s world?
C – We have our debut EP coming out in the summer!! We’re so excited to share it, the first ‘body of work’ we’ll have released and we’ve been working on for a while. It’s going to be awesome to have everyone hear it! In the meantime we’ll be spending lots of time in the practice room/studio being really noisy and writing – our favourite way to spend time. An album will be next!
