INTERVIEW: Camille Peruto

Hi Camille, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with me! I have been crazy busy and loving it!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Silent Melody”?

“Silent Melody” is one of the earliest songs I wrote off the album. It was about someone who I dated before who always wanted more. In fact, I heard from many girls that I wasn’t the only one he treated that way. The lyrics compare this guy to a song that just doesn’t quite get through to you, and the production is intense. It’s sort of an intense song in general!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Just the guy who I wrote it about and my thoughts on people who try to push others too far.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes! The video will be coming out on June 16th. It was shot in a lot of natural places that bring me back to when I first met the person who the song was about. It’s a bit darker than my usual taste but it’s edgy and really cool!

The single comes off your new album From The Sea To The Sky – what’s the story behind the title?

Good question! The melody is my favorite part of a song, and without it, I don’t really see the point. Just like I didn’t see the point in staying with someone who didn’t appreciate what I was willing to give. It’s just a metaphor for anyone who can’t get through to you and always wants more.

How was the recording and writing process?

I wrote all of the songs off of my new album, “From the Sea to the Sky” over the span of a few years. I had a lot of other material written but I am extremely happy with the track listing we chose. All of these songs mean a lot to me. Some of them are stories (made up and real). Some are words of advice and hope. Some are love/anti-love songs. I feel like there is something for everyone! Recording the album was a dream. It felt so natural working with the studio I chose.

What role does Philly plays in your writing?

I always looked up to the “Philly music scene”. I felt like I had to be good enough for it, but really, it’s taught me that music is versatile and Philadelphia is just a small city in a big world. I have met some amazing musicians and played some gorgeous venues there, and I am excited to expand and see what else the world has to offer.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

I love making up stories. Lately I’ve been writing on my drives home from far away gigs. I think of a line and build a melody and a story around it. I used to only write with my guitar, but that’s changing. I’m starting to produce music on my laptop now which is very inspiring as well.

Any plans to hit the road?

I am playing over 100 shows this summer, but they’re mostly cover gigs for exposure. As for my original music, I’m hoping to hit the road in Spring/Summer of next year. I want to start booking shows now, and get people excited! It’ll be my first time touring.

What else is happening next in Camille Peruto’s world?

My video for “Silent Melody” is coming out soon. I’m really excited for a busy summer and playing at new venues! One show I’m particularly excited for is happening at the Burlington County Ampitheatre. It’s a really cool outdoor spot for a free show. I am the opening act for a band there on July 8th, and I play 5:30-6:30PM. I’m also going “Live at 5” (5PM) with Radio 104.5 on July 28th with my band! That’s going to be a really exciting event! Thanks for taking the time to talk. 🙂
