Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Can’t Hold Me Down”?
This song was written more as an “anthem” to remind people that you are powerful and capable of overcoming all obstacles. It reminisces on being a young teen thinking you “know it all” and basically too smart to learn anything new. These old ways will always get the best of you and growing into an adult and “looking in the mirror” to be proud of what you see is very important in life.
Did any event, in particular, inspire you to write this song?
The album lyrics for the entire album were co-written with my friend of 25+ years. We wanted to take a universal approach and not only write about our personal lives & experiences. This helped open our eyes to situations we may have never dealt with on a personal level but could still offer some insight or words of encouragement to ease the “pain” of the situation.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Yes. We had a promotional video shot during our final recording sessions for the album. The video was shot near Stinson Beach, CA where we held the final recording and mixing sessions at Panoramic House Studios. The video was done by Free Foundations Photography which will be working on some additional videos including the official video for “Can’t Hold Me Down”.
The single comes off your new album Any Moment – what’s the story behind the title?
The album name Any Moment is an overall reminder that life is so precious and no matter how great or how bad it gets, it is possible that is can change at “Any Moment”. The album cover shows the San Francisco Bay Area’s iconic Golden Gate Bridge with an octopus pulling at the moon. This resembles the strength of the earth and the push and pull of gravity in the universe.
How was the recording and writing process?
The writing process took place at my recording studio located in Hercules, California alongside by great friend Peter Waugh. The song writing process would start with a list of themes we wanted to tackle and words/phrases which we believed would paint the picture and set the mood for the tune.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
The song was produced by Gary Larason aka bigG Productions where he wrote and performed each musical element. The inspiration was based on the initial “feeling” of the song and we generally would pick up on the vibe of each song simply based on the musical approach. This helped to feel out how the producer may have been feeling and that would point us in the direction of lyrics and story-line.
Any plans to hit the road?
Yes. I am currently not looking to create a formal band. We are talking with a variety of local bands (in multiple states) to discuss the possibility of learning the full album material and being a backing band for Robert Ledesma. The first string of shows will be setup in Southern and Northern California and will hit the road this summer (2017)!
What else is happening next in Robert Ledesma’s world?
Aside from pushing the new album and setting up live performances, Robert Ledesma is the sole owner of his record label Reggae Speaks. We have partnered up with 2 radio show hosts as well as other entities in the Reggae scene. These new partnerships will be developing packages to provide new artists as well as new artist curriculum. We are looking to best educate up and coming artists and pave their way to success.
