Santa Cruz, CA, based singer-songwriter Austin Shaw is just off a national sold-out tour with David Bromberg and getting set for a trek of July dates with dada. Shaw plans to release his debut full-length album FELT in the fall.
Shaw recently released an EP comprised of selections from his forthcoming album Felt. Both the EP and new album are produced by Robert L. Smith (Defy Recordings,) and feature the talents of guitarist Larry Saltzman (Paul Simon,) drummer Joe Bonadio (Sting,) bassist Malcolm Gold and vocalist Clara Lofaro.
Shaw tows the line between gut-wrenching emotion and uplifting soulful melodies, Felt kicks in with a sharply infectious and very personal opener Citrine. “Essentially it’s a story about a daughter losing her father at a far too early age. Something I endured and watched my family struggle through,” says Shaw. The song I’ve Been Leaning is a heartfelt and soul-searching melodic blend and the title track Felt crafts an honest and uplifting spirit with its chiming guitar lines and impressive vocal delivery. On his upcoming full album Shaw dives deeper into the human spirit and shows us he can express the pain, joy and complications of life on earth in a way we’ve all felt.
