With their Royal Albert Hall show selling out within the hour when tickets went on sale last year, Marillion have announced that they will play an additional two UK gigs this Autumn, visiting the London Palladium on 7 November and Manchester Academy on 8 November. Tickets go on sale on Friday 9 June at 10am via myticket.co.uk and seetickets.com
The legendary five-piece, whose illustrious back catalogue spans almost 40 years, released their 18th studio album ‘F E A R’ in September 2016 – the record entered at No.4 in the official UK charts and saw their highest chart position since ‘Clutching At Straws’ nearly three decades earlier.
2016 also saw Marillion achieve a near clean sweep in the Prog Magazine Readers Poll where the band came out on top in the end of year categories for best Band, Album, Vocalist, Bassist, Keyboardist, Guitarist, Drummer and Event!
Unquestionably one of the biggest influences on the landscape of the UK music scene, the band has evolved into a vibrant and international musical force with a global base of faithful followers. To those who already love Marillion they are something special – and to the uninitiated a potential love affair waiting to happen.
As the title of their 2015 behind-the-scenes film documentary, ‘Unconventional’ suggests, Marillion have regularly broken from tradition and pioneered new ideas including crowd-funding (which they invented!) and have used since the late 1990s, raising well over £1,000,000. In 2001, fans were asked to pre-order ‘Anoraknophobia’ a full 12 months before its release and their latest album F E A R, was produced in partnership with crowdfunding website, PledgeMusic. The band also have their own record label and launched the very first rock ‘n’ roll website in the UK.
Having written music that draws on almost every musical genre, Marillion can be considered progressive not just musically but in just about every sense…and they show no signs of slowing down.
